Andy is a contemporary artist metalworker, making unique sculptures and architectural ironwork from his workshop in South Devon. Growing up in rural Norfolk, he was drawn to the traditional skills of local blacksmiths - watching and learning as they worked in the agricultural environment. He completed a metalwork apprenticeship on leaving school, having learnt many different ways of working and forming metal.
Andy moved to South Devon where he was drawn to the sea, joining a crab fishing boat he learnt the age old methods of coastal fishing from the local fishermen. Metalwork was always there to fall back on when fishing was poor. A love of the sea and all things mechanical led him to join The Salcombe Lifeboat as full-time Mechanic and Deputy Coxswain. After seventeen years’ dedication to the RNLI, he decided to return to a more creative way of life. He began by forming sculptures from old garden and farming tools, which eventually led him to relight his forge.
Andy is a creative metalworker with an eye for detail derived from the natural world. His feel for the material he works with enables him to create detailed beauty in each bespoke piece.
